Custom stair railings — interior and exterior, with handrails

STAIR RAILINGS IN MONTENEGRO

Most stair railings we make are for stairs that are already built: we measure the pitch, treads and opening, so the railing follows your staircase exactly. Indoors that is usually mild steel with a timber or steel handrail; outdoors galvanised steel or stainless.

  • Railings for existing concrete, timber and steel stairs
  • Gallery and stairwell railings
  • Wall-mounted handrails
  • Handrails in stainless, steel or timber

We work across Montenegro — Herceg Novi, Kotor, Tivat, Budva, Bar and Podgorica. Measuring is free within 60 km of our workshop in Podi.

STAIR RAILING OPTIONS

01

Vertical bars

The most common choice for interior stairs: clean-looking and safe for children.

02

Steel with a timber handrail

Mild steel with an oak or ash handrail matched to the treads.

03

Stainless railing

For exterior stairs and stairs by the sea, where the handrail is touched constantly.

04

Gallery and opening railing

The railing around the slab opening continues from the stairs along the gallery, even when the opening is round.

05

Wall handrail

A handrail on wall brackets, where stairs run along a wall or as a second handrail.

STAIR RAILING DIMENSIONS

90–100 cm

Railing height

Measured vertically from the tread nosing.

100 cm

Gallery railing

On the level section around the opening — like a terrace railing.

up to 12 cm

Infill gaps

Also between the tread and the bottom of the railing.

40–50 mm

Handrail diameter

Easy to grip; at least 4 cm clear of the wall.

On existing stairs we measure every tread separately — concrete stairs rarely have equal rises.

FIXING, HANDRAIL AND PROTECTION

Fixing

Top-fixed to the treads or side-fixed to the stair edge and stringer. Side fixing keeps the treads clear and full width.

Handrail

Timber to match the treads, mild steel or Ø 42.4 mm stainless. Timber and stainless feel best in the hand.

Protection

Indoors powder coating in any colour; outdoors hot-dip galvanising before coating, or stainless.

FROM OUR PROJECTS

WHAT DETERMINES THE PRICE OF A STAIR RAILING

The price depends on the shape of the stairs and the build. These things matter most.

We price every job individually. After a free site visit we send a drawing and a fixed price within 48 hours.
  1. Shape of the stairs A straight flight is simplest; turns, winders and spirals need bending and more work.
  2. Length and gallery The length along the stairs plus the level section around the opening.
  3. Handrail Steel is the most affordable; timber and stainless need extra finishing.
  4. Fixing method Concrete, timber and steel need different anchors and brackets.
  5. Indoors or outdoors Outdoors and by the sea — galvanising or stainless.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT STAIR RAILINGS

Can you make a railing for existing stairs?

Yes, that is our most common job. We measure the stairs on site and make the railing to their exact pitch and treads.

How high should a stair railing be?

90–100 cm from the tread nosing, and at least 100 cm on a gallery around the opening. Infill gaps up to 12 cm.

Can a steel railing have a timber handrail?

Yes. We make the steel railing with a base for an oak or ash handrail matched to your treads.

Do you make the stairs too?

Yes — see our custom steel stairs. The railing is then made together with the stairs, in the same colour.

How long does installation take?

For stairs in a house usually one day; the railing arrives finished and painted from the workshop.

MATERIALS AND PROTECTION

By the sea it is the protection that decides, not the thickness of the steel. Before we quote, we ask where the structure will stand and how far it is from the water.

MILD STEEL

The strongest and cheapest option, but only with galvanising and powder coating. Left unprotected on the coast it rusts within a single season.

STAINLESS AISI 304 / 316

For handrails and railings by the sea. AISI 316 where there is salt and spray, 304 for interiors and the inland areas.

ALUMINIUM

Light and rust-free — for lightweight structures and parts that are hard to reach for maintenance.

HOT-DIP GALVANISING

Immersion in molten zinc protects the inside of the profile as well. Powder coating in your RAL colour goes on top.
